COPPOLA COACHING

Acting is one of the most underrated art forms in the world.

There are definitely more challenging art forms and much difficult ones,

But because we all walk, talk, smile, frown, laugh and cry we think that acting is just so easy. Just laugh when you're supposed to or cry when you're supposed to.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

You add the pressure of learning lines, movement or blocking  that at first can feel very forced and hard to remember and there is time...what I mean by time is you usually only have hours to learn something and make it seem organic and real.

And then there's nerves. They make you feel Self conscious and doubt and judged and all around put you in your head.

Acting is supposed to seem effortless unless of course the character is showing effort. Walking in someone's else's  shoes is so challenging that it should be given a lot of space and time to figure out. That's why it takes a long time to get good. It takes experience which helps to fight nerves, it takes experience to know instinctively what to do and how to react or act.

I was once coaching a young inexperienced actor. And when the director saw me do the part he asked "why can't he just do it like that?"

I said "what's the difference between wine and grape juice?" No answer so I said "time."

It's all those years of training and experience that add the nuanced flavors to a part and that's the difference.

MY PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE: AS WE REHEARSE THE MATERIAL THE CLIENT AND I FIND CONTENT THAT FITS THE AUDITION. SO THAT AT THE END OF A SESSION THE CLIENT FEELS CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO DO THE BEST JOB POSSIBLE.

WE ALWAYS HAVE FUN. WE ALWAYS SGTAY LOOSE AND WE NEVER TAKE OURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY. GOOD IDEAS COME WHEN WE ARE RELAXED
